Email Verification

Validate your subscriber email addresses to improve deliverability and reduce bounce rates.

Why Verify Emails?

Sending to invalid email addresses harms your sender reputation and wastes your sending quota. Email verification helps you:

  • Reduce bounce rates — remove invalid, disposable, and misspelled addresses before sending
  • Protect your sender reputation — ISPs track bounce rates; high bounces can get your domain blacklisted
  • Save money — don't waste sends on addresses that will never receive your email
  • Improve analytics — cleaner lists give more accurate open and click rates

How It Works

waveMail's email verification checks each address through multiple layers:

  1. Syntax validation — ensures the email format is correct (e.g. [email protected])
  2. Domain check — verifies the domain exists and has valid MX records
  3. Disposable email detection — flags temporary/throwaway email services
  4. Mailbox verification — checks whether the specific mailbox exists on the mail server

Running a Verification

  1. Navigate to Email Verification in the sidebar (or from your list tools)
  2. Select the list you want to verify
  3. Click Start Verification
  4. The verification process runs in the background — you'll receive a notification when complete
  5. Review the results: each subscriber is flagged as Valid, Invalid, Risky, or Unknown

Verification Results

Result Meaning Recommendation
Valid Email address exists and can receive mail Safe to send
Invalid Email address doesn't exist or domain has no mail server Remove from list
Risky Address exists but may be a catch-all, disposable, or role-based address Send with caution or remove
Unknown Could not be determined (server didn't respond) Try again later or send with caution

Best Practices

  • Verify your list before your first campaign send
  • Re-verify lists that haven't been mailed in over 3 months
  • Always verify imported lists, especially if the data is older
  • Use double opt-in to naturally filter out invalid addresses going forward
  • Remove or blacklist addresses flagged as Invalid promptly
