Abandoned Cart

Win back shoppers who add items to their cart but don't check out. When your store records an abandoned cart, it's synced to a waveMail list, and automated recovery emails — showing the exact products left behind — bring the customer back to complete the purchase.

How it works

  1. A shopper adds products to their cart on your store but doesn't complete the purchase.
  2. Your store records this as an abandoned cart and syncs it to a waveMail list through the integration — the shopper is added (or updated) as a subscriber, with their cart contents stored against their profile.
  3. waveMail sends automated recovery emails that display the products in the cart — image, quantity, and price — with the order total and a one-click button back to checkout.

The two recovery autoresponders

Recovery runs on two autoresponder campaigns. Create one for each event so you catch both brand-new carts and carts that change.

1. New cart — after subscribe

Set the autoresponder event to after subscribe. It fires the first time an abandoned cart is created and synced to the list (the shopper is added as a new subscriber). Use it for your initial “you left something behind” reminder.

2. Cart changed — after profile update

Set the autoresponder event to after profile update. It fires when an existing shopper's cart changes (items added or removed updates their profile). Use it to follow up with the latest cart contents.

Building the recovery email

In the email builder, add the Abandoned Cart block. It automatically renders the products from the shopper's cart — image, name, quantity, and price — along with the order total and a recovery button that links the shopper straight back to their checkout. You can style the button text, colours, and layout to match your brand.

Setup checklist

  1. Connect your store — see the integration guides for WooCommerce, Magento, or Shopify.
  2. Confirm abandoned carts are syncing into a dedicated waveMail list.
  3. Create autoresponder #1 on the after subscribe event, add the Abandoned Cart block, and set a delay (for example, 1 hour after the cart is abandoned).
  4. Create autoresponder #2 on the after profile update event for changed carts.
  5. Send yourself a test, then enable both campaigns.
